General Bradshaw Blanks Tips

STOP! PLEASE READ BEFORE PRESSING!

Before you start, please take time to do your own research and test using practice material.
These tips are based on my personal experience and are provided as general recommendations — your setup may require different times and temperatures.
Always check as you go for best results!

Pressing Tips for Solid Fabric (Clothing, Blankets, etc.)

  1. Press Time & Temp: 385- 60 seconds:
We do not recommend press longer than 70 seconds or hotter than 365–385°F on fabric.

  2. Full Coverage:
Make sure your heating element or platen covers the entire surface of the fabric item.

  3. Lint Roll:
Lint roll both before and after pressing to reduce press lines and remove lint (which can dye blue when pressed).

  4. Pre-Press:
For solid (non-bleach) shirts, pre-press for 10 seconds to remove moisture and reduce ghosting.
Consider using our Bradshaw Blanks - heat activated tacky paper.

  5. Preventing Press Lines:
Polyester has a “memory,” so try:

    • Ripping the edges of your transfer paper, or

    • Using a pressing pillow to help reduce lines.
After pressing, cover with clean butcher paper and press again for 10 seconds to smooth out any lines.

  6. Always Read Product Descriptions:
Be sure to review full product details

Faux Bleach Tips

  1. Important Reminder:
These prints are made with heat-activated ink and will re-transfer if exposed to high heat again.
Always cover your entire heating element and padding with butcher paper when pressing.

    If you forget:

    • Use a high-poly scrap item and press it for 3-minute cycles to absorb leftover ink.

    • Repeat until no more transfers appear.

    • Stains may look like they remain, but continue using butcher paper and they’ll fade with use.

  2. Avoid Tape on Colored Faux Bleach Areas:
Only use tape on white areas to avoid removing color from the design.

  3. Pressing Pillow Tip:
Butcher paper allows heat through — use a pressing pillow or towel (1/8"–1/4") only under the white area to raise it.
This lifts your image for a cleaner press and keeps the colored faux bleach sections from over-pressing.

  5. Washing Instructions (for High Polyester):

    • Wash inside out

    • No fabric softener (it causes buildup)

    • Air dry or use low heat to prevent pilling. If the polyester does pill, consider using a fabric shaver.

We all make mistakes — even the pros.
I'm not an expert, just the queen of crafting mistakes, and all of my tips come from my own “happy accidents.”

I hope you make something amazing (or funny)!
